Our Select Whey formula closely matches the ratios of amino acids (alpha-lactalbumin, tryptophan, cysteine, glutamic acid and methionine) found in colostrum or human breast milk. Whey protein offers higher amounts of cysteine and glutamic acid, both precursors to glutathione, a potent antioxidant that is often drained during illness or stress. This increase in glutathione (GSH) is believed to be the specific immune boosting function of whey proteins. This boost is also believed to contribute to whey protein's role as an immune modulator. Studies suggest a link between the immune modulator function and the decrease in asthma symptoms in children consuming whey protein.
